Now this 15 inch Gigabyte Aorus 15 G laptops is pretty much focused on performance and it definitely does pack some of the fastest hardware on the market, but then in this nice and small chassis.

So this particular model comes with an RTx 3080, and eight core i7-10870H, 32 gigabytes of RAM, one terabyte SSD and a 240 hertz. Full HD display.
And this exact configuration should cost you around 2300, euros here in the Netherlands, or around $2,000 in the US, which, isn't really cheap, but it still makes it one of the more affordable 3080 laptops.
Now, there should be a 3060 and a 3070 version available as well, that will cost you a tiny bit less, but that's pretty much it.
There's not that much variation in terms of different panels or other specs listed on their website, but they still might vary per region so check out.

Anyway, let's see what gigabyte put together here, and how it compares to the rest of the laptops I managed to do so far.
{tocify} $title={Table of Contents}
Design, Materials, Build Quality
Now designed wise is this 15 G is very similar to the last year's model.
It has a very neutral pretty straightforward design without anything too flashy or too extreme.
On the top panel there is a small orange logo that lights up.
And even though you cannot turn it off, it's not RGB and it actually looks pretty elegant, in my opinion.
Considering its high end configuration, it is pretty impressive that it is just 23 millimeters thick and it weighs only two kilos, or, you know, a bit more if you count the charger as well.
It is made mostly out of plastic but the build quality is surprisingly good.
It feels very sturdy with barely any flexing the panels. And I really like the fact that it's not sensitive to fingerprints at all.
Now you can easily open it with one hand and while the panel and the hinges feel pretty solid.
It does look like the right hinge is only supported on one side, and it does give off. If you press it a bit harder.
I can't really predict if that is a weak spot or not. And how will it hold up if you use it for months or four years, but I did snoop around to see if there were any issues with previous models and I didn't find any widespread issues so it is worth pointing out, keeping an eye on it.
Keyboard, Touchpad
On the inside gigabyte did a pretty good job as well, the bezels are nice and slim and it has a very bright RGB keyboard that goes from edge to edge, without wasting any space.
Now last year's model had a mechanical keyboard but it looks like they decided against it.
This time around, nevertheless, the keys feel pretty snappy and fast, and it is very pleasant to use.
I personally loved that they kept the numpad, and I do wish the more laptops would follow this same trend now the touchpad is completely fine as well.
You can use it if you need to, and it will do its job just fine. But if you are like me, you will just grab a mouse instead.
Connections
Now when it comes to connections, I kind of have mixed feelings about them.
On the left side there is an HDMI and DisplayPort connection of five gigabit USB 3.2 Gen one type a port 3.5 millimeter audio jack and an Ethernet connection.
Aorus 15 G review |
And on the right side, it has another two five gigabits type A ports, a five gigabit type C port and SD card reader and a power connection.
And while the total number of connections is very nice. I kind of expected at least a 10 gigabit USB 3.2 Gen two type C port and a thunderbolt connection given that this is an Intel laptop
Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming Performance
But let's move on to the gaming performance of this laptop, when compared to a bunch of laptops we tested over the years the 15 G is positioned nicely up there in the graphs.
It's taking the first place in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and it is nicely into top in Division Two.
As well as Far Cry 5, which is not bad considering that these games are pretty CPU heavy, but the dark horse in these graphs, is the Aorus15 p that uses a higher power 130 watt RTx 3070, and that will cost you quite a bit less.
Now I'm working on a Gigabyte Aorus 15 G review on that laptop as well as the comparison between these two as it has put a lot of pressure on this 3080.
So if you are interested in those videos and you don't want to miss them.
Make sure you're subscribed to my channel. Anyway, compared to the Asus ROG Strix G15, which uses a higher power RT x 3070 as well.
The Gigabyte Aorus 15 G review turned out to be considerably faster in every game, with an average advantage of about 22%.
Part of this is thanks to asus using Nvidia Optimus that you cannot disable, while gigabyte when for a max which instead which does mean that you do have to reboot your machine, and after swapping between the integrated graphics and the dedicated graphics, but I still think that that's totally worth doing for a 22% higher frame rates.
Now if you decide to use an external monitor which is the only way to disable the optimust on the Asus laptop.
The difference between the two would drop to around 5%, but that kind of defeats the purpose of any gaming laptop, in my opinion.
As I mentioned before the Aorus 15 P is where it gets really difficult.
So the 15 P gaming laptop is a slightly thicker and a slightly heavier model with a lower price tag, the packs a higher power 130 watt 3070.
It is a little bit faster overall than the 105 watt 3080 in this laptop. 5% on average is not that much and it does depend on which game you're looking .
That is pretty much where you need to draw a line and decide if you want to go for something that's thicker and slightly faster, or you're okay with losing a bit of performance by going for a thinner and lighter Gigabyte Aorus 15 G review.
Intel Core i7-10870H (CPU Performance)
When it comes to CPU performance the Intel Core i 710 878 is clearly doing a very good job in games, and it is a strong performer overall as well.
So these eight core i7 are very capable and can do anything you throw at them, including some heavy photo and some heavy video editing.
But for editing as well as for gaming you do need to have a good display.
240Hz 1080p IPS Panel (Performance)
Gigabyte Aorus 15 G review : And this laptop comes with a factory calibrated Full HD 240 hertz IPS panel.
This panel offers a good color gamut, that will be completely fine for some creative work pretty accurate colors right out of the box, and a reasonable contrast for an IPS display that is likely over 1200 to one.
The maximum brightness is average sheesh, at best, but it will be enough for gaming indoors.
This is also a three millisecond panel and while it won't be able to really beat a high end desktop monitor, it will look and feel really smooth, even in those faster eSports titles.
Thermal Performance & Software
Now when it comes to thermal performance gigabyte does a really good job in its default setting.
So CPU and GPU thermals are actually really comfortable and at 43 decibels, it is actually surprisingly quiet for a fully stressed gaming laptop or Gigabyte Aorus 15 G review.
Now you can change some settings around and modes, using their software but you know as usual when you mentioned gigabyte and software in the same sentence, it almost never ends up well.
Now there's a CPU boost option that basically leads to thermal throttling right away and it doesn't actually make the laptop perform any better in benchmarks.
And we also have the Eco mode that does reduce the noise by a little bit, but not enough to actually call it a silent mode, but you know that aside when you don't expect that much from it, and with the default mode being completely fine.
We can just ignore the software side and move on but I would say this is definitely where they need to improve on.
Internals, Maintenance, Upgrades
Aorus 15 G review - So let's move on to the internals of this laptop which are actually very well done.
All the usual things that I'm looking for are nicely covered, you can clean the fans you can replace the battery or upgraded memory, if you want to, You can upgrade the Wi Fi chip and you can replace and even add another NVMe SSD.
Aorus 15 G review Battery Life
But this battery is also a bit tricky, in my opinion, even though it's very large, the actual battery life
of the 15 G is still pretty average, I got a bit over four hours in pcmark benchmark and five hours 15 minutes while just watching Netflix.
Now technically this is not bad for a high power laptop, but it is also another impressive when you compare it to some of the alternatives out there.
SSD, Webcam, Speakers
I'll give them some points for including a very fast SSD but I'll take those points away for using one of the worst webcams I've seen in a high end laptop.
Alright, this is the test of the camera and the microphone on this laptop, as you can see this angle is very very flattering.
If you're into Chin's nostrils and giant hands. Yeah, the positioning definitely needs to be changed in my opinion.
This is not even okay for a business meeting or for teens meeting literally it's useless this speaker is on the 15 G passable, they opted for a large keyboard with a numpad which left barely any space for larger speakers like we see on some other laptops.
And I personally prefer to have a numpad and use a headset, but you know you can decide what is more important to you.
Conclusion- Gigabyte Aorus 15 G review
I'm actually pretty impressed with this Aorus 15 G is a really nice laptop overall, both for general use and for gaming.
It offers plenty of performance to handle anything you need to display is very nice the inputs are very nice, and to build quality is pretty good as well.
Now I still wouldn't call it perfect as it definitely has a few rough edges like the poor quality webcam like the lack of really fast USB or Thunderbolt connections, and the software is pretty poor as well.
But those still feel like small details on an otherwise really nice machine and then especially when you consider the fact that it should be on the affordable side of 3080 laptops.
So those are the things that you don't care about and you can miss this 15G would be a very nice choice, indeed, but do keep an eye out on my 15 p review that's coming out.Trust me.That's a good one.
So that's it for today I really hope you enjoyed this Gigabyte Aorus 15 G review and I hope it helped at least have it.
